On Tuesday, October 23rd, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Patient Alumni hosted its regular “Put Your Heart into Tickers” event. As usual, it was a sold out event.

About 40 guests watched as Executive Chef, Elamri Samir from Marek Foods, demonstrated how to prepare two delicious and healthy recipes. The first recipe was a tasty Cremini Mushroom Soup, followed by a colorful Moroccan Chicken with Preserved Lemon and Olives with Seasonal Vegetables, as the main dish.

Chef Samir was assisted by Kathleen Turner, the Heart Institute’s Registered Dietician. She provided information about the cooking ingredients and techniques, while answering questions from the audience.

Generous portions of the colorful and artfully prepared dishes were served to the attendees so they could taste the results first hand. The consensus from the participants was that it was delicious.

Thanks to everyone who signed up for this event. Any profits from the evening will go to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. A special thank you goes out to Chef Elamri, dietician Kathleen Turner, and Tickers restaurant for hosting this event.

These photos show how truly wonderful it was to experience the food presented to us by Chef Elamri. Based on your feedback, we plan to continue hosting cooking events in the near future. Stay tuned!
