What is the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Community?
The University of Ottawa Heart Institute Community is a place for patients, their families, caregivers and friends can go to find support before, during and after their time at the Institute. The community is not to replace seeking medical advice to but an area to share your experience, stories and help send words of encouragement for people currently going through a health event.
How Does It Work?
Once you have joined the community using your email address, look for a confirmation email instructing you to complete your registration. Once that is complete you will have full access to the community. You can create a “Post” or send a private message to a member, share your opinion or comment on someone else’s Post. Interacting with the site is easy and the more you do it, the more people will get to know one another and the community will flourish.
How Do I Complete My Profile?
Click on the Profile Tab and you will then be able to see what your profile currently looks like. This includes your name, profile picture, display information and any content you’re involved in on the site. You can edit and update your profile information on the top right hand side of the grey box. Also, check out the instructional videos under the Tutorial section to see a live demonstration on how to complete your profile.
How Will This Community Help Me?
Just like a community of neighbours, the Ottawa Heart Institute Alumni Patient Community will mean something different for each member. Whether you want to make a new friend, read someone’s story, get information on news and events related to the Institute or share your own experience, this Community provides all these opportunities and more.
What Type of Content Can I Post?
You can share everything from your opinion on a news story to your own personal experience and how the Heart Institute has changed your life. You can seek support while you’re in the waiting room waiting for a loved one to get out of surgery. This is a community of like-minded people that care about each other and heart health. Feel free to share photos or videos that you think members would enjoy. We ask for you to refrain from asking or providing medical advice in any way.
