The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) and its Patient Alumni Association celebrate February as Heart Month to raise awareness on the importance of cardiovascular health and on how to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Heart disease affects approximately 2.4 million Canadian adults, and is the second leading cause of death in Canada. We can all help our hearts by making healthy lifestyle choices, including quitting smoking, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
As such, the UOHI, Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre, dedicated to understanding, treating and, most importantly, preventing heart disease, offers a variety of resources to help you take good care of your heart.
